Yvonne Thompson Page Co-op Students of the Year

Purpose
Each year the Co-operative Education department selects students to receive the Yvonne Thompson Page (YTP) Camosun Co-op Student of the Year award which recognizes outstanding co-operative education and internship students at Camosun.
The award was established by Yvonne’s friends and colleagues at Camosun, and pays tribute to the energy, enthusiasm, and dedication that Yvonne brought to her position as the co-op coordinator in the Office Administration program. Yvonne touched many people with her vibrant and colourful approach to life.
Eligibility
In order to receive YTP Award from your respective school, a student must:
- have successfully completed at least one work term;
- be registered as a Camosun student for at least term in the same calendar year that the award is given; and
- be nominated by a Co-op and Internship Coordinator (CIC)
Only students who receive their schools YTP award are eligible to apply for the “Overall YTP Camosun Co-op Student of the Year” award.
Applications are considered from students who have successfully completed a work term between January and December 2023.
Application Documents
To apply, students submit an application package which includes the following items, in the order below:
1. Student’s personal letter
Submit one (1) typewritten essay (2 page maximum, 1-inch margins, 10 pt font) and describe the following:
- Reasons for participating in co-op/internship
- Your achievements on your co-op work term(s)
- How co-operative education has enhanced your career development, personal development, and academic experience (where possible, be specific in your examples)
- Your contribution to extra-curricular activities at school and/or the community-at-large
- Your contribution to co-operative education through activities such as mentoring other co-op students, being an ambassador for the college, and/or promoting co-op education
Include your signature at the bottom of the letter.
2. Student’s bio (150 words maximum)
- A highlighted summary of your achievements described in your personal statement.
3. Employer’s letter or support form
Please answer the following questions via email:
- Basic duties of the student while with organization
- Describe how the student made a significant contribution (i.e. to your workplace, your stakeholders, project completion, bottom line, strategic goals, etc.). Please use at least one example and indicate the impact on the organization.
- Did you give the student extra duties or opportunities because they performed above expectations and if so, please provide an example.
- Do you have other comments that you think the awards committee should know?
* If the employer prefers, a letter (max. 2 pages on letterhead) may be submitted instead of this support form. The letter must include all information requested on the form, including the permission statement and a signature and date.

4. Academic transcript
- This can be an unofficial transcript downloaded from your MyCamosun account.
5. Student’s portfolio (optional, but encouraged - 2 page maximum)
- Include any items you feel will give the selection committee a better idea of who you are as a person. You may submit copies of previous letters of recommendation, published work and other relevant items. Awards and citations are to be listed in your résumé. Please note that any additional letters/essays similar to those already requested from the nominating institution, employer and you in the nomination package are not acceptable.

All nomination packages must meet all guidelines to be forwarded to the selection process.

Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision within two weeks of the submission deadline.
