Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Must be a current or previous James Bay Athletic Association (JBAA) athlete and submit a letter from the coach or club personnel.
  2. Must be enrolled in full-time studies in the upcoming Fall semester in a Camosun College post-secondary level program leading to a credential. For the purpose of this award, full-time study is defined as a minimum of 60% course load.
  3. Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Application Process

  1. Complete and submit the online application no later than the award deadline.
  2. Include a letter from the JBAA coach or club personnel confirming status as a JBAA athlete.
  3. Include a one-page personal statement outlining community involvement. Your personal statement should explain why you are a good candidate for the award. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a desire to give back to their local community.

Additional Information

  • The Awards Committee will review applications and recommend a recipient. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. All decisions are final.
  • The successful recipient will be notified by email no later than 6 weeks after the award application closing date.
  • Entrance awards cannot be deferred to a future semester or year.
  • Students will not normally receive more than one entrance award.
  • Students receiving Persons with Disabilities or Income Assistance should speak with Financial Aid & Awards and their Ministry case worker to discuss how award funds may impact their government assistance.
  • Entrance award funds are considered income. A statement for income tax purposes will be sent to recipients by Camosun.
  • Award recipients are encouraged to write a thank you letter to the donor; thank you letters can be submitted to Financial Aid & Awards.

Camosun College Entrance Award Declaration

  1. I am a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number. Successful applicants will be required to provide their Social Insurance Number. 
  2. I have answered all questions completely and accurately.
  3. I consent to Camosun College staff checking or verifying information on this application.
  4. If I give answers that are not true or if changed circumstances make me ineligible, I will be required to pay back all or part of the award I received.
  5. If I am receiving income assistance, student loan/grant or other government funding, I am required to notify the appropriate government office of the amount of award funding I have been granted.
  6. I consent that Camosun College may release application information to the Camosun College Foundation Office and to the award donor.
  7. If I receive $500 or more in awards funds in one year, a statement for income tax purposes will be sent to me by Camosun College. I will ensure my mailing address is kept up to date.
