Section 1: Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. You must be a former BC youth in continuing custody:
    1. Who was:
      1. In the continuing custody of a director designated under Section 91 of the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) pursuant to that act; or
      2. Under the guardianship of a director pursuant to section 51(1)(a) of the Infants Act; or,
    2. Who was under the guardianship of a director of adoption pursuant to the Adoption Act:
      • until the person turned 19 years of age or for at least five years immediately prior to the youth’s adoption or permanent transfer of custody to a person other than a parent under s.54.1 of the CFCSA.
    • If you do not know if you meet the above legal criteria, please contact your former social worker, any Ministry of Children and Family Development office, or any delegated Aboriginal agency for help.
  2. You must be accepted at Camosun College in a post-secondary level program that leads to a credential.
  3. You must be enrolled full time (a minimum 60% of a full time course load or 40% for students with a permanent disability approved by Student Aid BC). Program must commence during the application period (January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016).
  4. You must be between 19 and 24 years old at the start of your program.
  5. Able to demonstrate financial need.
  6. You are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  7. Previous recipients of the WCG Bursary are not eligible to apply.

Section 2: Application Process

  1. Complete the WCG Former Youth in Care Bursary online application. Paper/printed applications will not be accepted.
  2. Applications will be accepted from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2016. You may apply for this bursary up until 6 weeks prior to your study end date. Applications are assessed as they are received, and bursaries may be awarded at any point during the application period. Once recipients have been selected, no further funding will be available for the remainder of the calendar year.
  3. Late applications will not be accepted.
  4. Adjudication of this bursary will be managed by the Financial Aid & Awards office. All decisions are final.
  5. Successful recipients will be notified by email.
  6. Funds from this bursary will be applied directly to the student account. If tuition and fees have already been paid, the surplus amount will be refunded.

  2. Complete all required sections of the application.
  3. Upload your supporting documentation in PDF format. Mailed/faxed/emailed copies will not be accepted.
